Trigger Point Therapy
Myofascial
Trigger Points are a sensitive spot within a tight band of skeletal
muscle, they can be located in the muscular tissue or its surrounding
fascia (fibrous tissue).
Trigger Points can be either active or latent. Active Trigger Points
have a referred pain pattern and can be painful to touch. Latent
Trigger Points are not painful but can cause restriction of movement
or weakness within the muscle.
Active Trigger Points can affect other associated Trigger Points,
which are situated within the referred pain pattern, thus causing
a number of them to be active at one time.
Most people have Trigger Points, they describe as knots.
Remedial and Trigger Point massage can be applied as a great pain-reliving
tool, the therapist will provide a program suitable to the patients
pain needs dependant on the outcome of the massage.
Trigger Points can appear a number of ways:
- Injury
- Sprains or strains, overuse
- Stress to muscles
- Chronic pain
- Postural related problems
- Workplace stress
- Exposure to cold draught of a fatigued muscle
These are just a few ways Trigger Points can start. If you have any of the
above, consult your local Trigger Point therapist for a comprehensive
assessment.
